A single affordable part on a boiler with life left in it is usually worth fitting. If the boiler is within or near its warranty period, if this is the first fault in years, and if the part is a modest one — repair it and move on. When replacement wins
Replacement is the better spend when the boiler has been condemned, when the failed part is a major component on a unit long out of warranty, or when you are paying for the second or third repair in a couple of winters. At that point every repair is buying months, not years, and the money is better in a new boiler with a registered 5 to 10 year warranty.
The maths, honestly
Put the repair quote next to the fitted price of a replacement — from £1,999 for a straight swap — and ask what each buys. A repair buys the rest of this boiler's life, however long that is. A replacement buys a warrantied decade on the models at the top of our list. Neither answer is always right; the age and history of your boiler decide it.
